All My Life .... kinda fitting lol
see related

I am still alive!

holy crap. it has been over 6 months - a half year - since i last wrote in this xanga. let me just relive some of these highlights from the last half year for all of you guys, and for my sake too...

-i went up to naperville to hang with brandon and do some other fun things. the bus ride (yeah, bus ride) was awful. it took somewhere around 6 and a half hours to make it up there. yick. while i was up there, i ate plenty of chicago specialties, including portillo's and chicago pan pizza. delish. i also got to see my first cubs game at wrigley field, and they played the white sox (unsurprisingly, the cubs blew their lead in the top of the 9th ). talk about a nasty rivalry. i also got to experience a hooka bar and the best burrito of my life.

-i came home and the 4th of july was a blast. i started working for vector marketing (cutco, for those of you who don't know) thanks --i mean, not thanks to duey-- cuz that job was awful. i promptly quit by august.

-mcdonald's, as usual, was awful. we'll just leave it at that. i am still employed there to this day.

-i wound up getting an A in my summer calc class. it sure is nice having smart friends.

-the end of the summer started winding down. towards the end of the summer, i became a lot closer with will card, which has been awesome. i have also become very close with lauren, kelly, and erica, my favorite half-asian in the world. before the summer was over, o'fallon and all of st. louis experienced some crazy violent weather, that put 300,000+ without power. what a crazy time that was.

-the same weekend of all the storms, i went down to the ozarks with the wills, jimmy, and tom. that was a lot of fun, i suppose, especially since will's step-dad, steve, is an iron chef america apparently.

-i went to 5 cardinals games over the course of the season, including against the d-backs, astros, cubs, braves, and phillies. i went 3-2. not too shabby, i must say.

-finally, i got back to school, where i was met with a new roommate. justin's awesome, even if he is a sox fan. since i've been here, i passed all of my classes and had a great semester.  the cardinals finally won the world series against probably the worst defensive pitching staff in the history of baseball. one way or another i was excited. the rams sucked again for another season. the blues started off terribly, but are now turning things around under andy murray, and i am again getting really into hockey.

-this year, i am getting really back into the racquetball thing. it helps that i always have plenty of people to play with. plus, my parents got me a racquet, which is preeeeeetty sweet. i love that mess.

-1st semester, i burned roughly 200 DVDs, went to u of i a plethora of times, and went to carbondale and northern once a piece. all of those trips were well worth it. on one of my return trips home, i brought brandon with and we went to the styx/foreigner concert at UMB with shamy, jess, duey, adam, and will. "St. Louis, you guys know how to f^$#&*g rock!!!"

-i signed a lease with rikin and brandon that is effective this next fall semester. anyone who ever wants to come up, give me a shout, and we'll definitely make that happen since we'll have plenty of room for visitors.

-over the semester i also got hooked on a different band. Trapt is now one of my favorites.

-i got a job up here at school. unfortunately, the job entailed telemarketing for the school. it was terrible. probably the worst idea i ever had. well...besides mcdonald's....or vector. lol.

-over thanksgiving break, i started hanging out at the cards house a lot with the crew, and became a lot tighter with thomas and will. i also found my true passion for guitar hero. this trend continued over christmas break. definitely lots of good fun. i also attended 5 or 6 blues games, between the combined breaks. oh god, i love the blues.

-on another sports-related note, ever since i started playing NBA 2K7 over breaks, i have been really into the NBA. crazy, i know. Lebron is my hero.

-we rang in the new year succesfully at the cards house, with a ridiculously crazy loud rendition of "Auld Lang Syne." quite hilarious. hard to believe that it is already 2007. seems like we were just freaking out about Y2K. crazy how time flies. oh yeah, i got a new phone and phone number for christmas, so if you want that just hit me up. i know you guys have probably been calling me non-stop wondering why my phone has been turned off, since you guys all just love me THAT much haha.

-since all of this has happened, i have been back at school, which has had a pretty good start to the semester. i have the watched "The Office," pretty much constantly for a few months now. i joined a small family, bible study that meets every monday night. the group of guys is awesome, so i'm jazzed about that. i have also been getting more into EIU athletics (as bad as they are). i went to one basketball game this semester and i'm going to another tonight, as well as the game on saturday ON ESPN2 vs. Samford U. if you're bored, watching tv on saturday night, turn on ESPN2 and look for me. i'll probably be rocking out a blue wig. as good as it has been, i am really looking forward to living in the apartment next year. it will definitely be a rocking good time.

-oh yeah. don't be too jealous, buuuuuuut me and brandon will be at wrigley for the april 20th-22nd series against the cards. yeah. i rock.

-i can't wait for spring and summer to come. i'm tired of snow and cold, dreary weather with no sunlight. not to mention, swimming is pretty dope, too. hopefully this summer, i get to catch some more drum corps road trips (only had 1 in 06) with dan hines, justin, and jarel. march 4th, the goo goo dolls are gonna be here at EIU, which is going to be amazing, i'm pretty sure. this summer, i also want to go camping, biking, hiking, and perhaps on a boating trip. my friend jake is getting married this summer, right around the 4th and my family is trying to plan a big get-together with the whole paulsen (my mom's side) family for my grandparent's 60th anniverssary --yes, 60th. i'm really looking forward to that. other than that though, i'm really anticiptaing some cardinals baseball, good old-fashioned hanging out with my family and bros, good weather, and a GOOD job. GOOD. not mcdonald's.

-now that i'm finally caught up on everything, i think that's about it. plenty of stuff i left out, but those are pretty much the highlights of my past 1/2 year. this upcoming weekend, duey and lauren are both coming up to visit me. i am STOKED. should be a great weekend. if anyone's reading this and i haven't heard from you in a while, HIT ME UP. it's be great to hear from you. get my digits from me on my AIM profile... tromboner2005.

everyone, have a safe and enjoyable weekend! if you made it all the way through this entry, i applaud and thank you for being interested in my life. goodnight and godspeed from charleston, il.

signing off,
kevin

well, here i am with another xanga update.

i really have nothing too exciting to talk about, but i'm just sitting around bored, so here i am.

it's been kind of depressing around here. emily is sort of moved out and jessica left for indy just over a week ago. so i'm the last one left.

i leave for naperville in 12 days! i am pumped!

so, i've been hanging out with a lot of different people lately. let me tell you, it's been great. trip to the city museum last night was great. and then of course, rocking out to bohemian rhapsody with emily quitmeyer, tom, and jimmy on the way back home was amazing.

around o'fallon though, things have been pretty boring. i definitely miss hanging out with tom and duey. on a more positive note, however, it has been a lot of fun hanging out with will like we did back in the day. and i'm getting to know the jimmster a lot better.

only 16 more days of class! school's still school though. so that means it's gay.

been going to the gym and eating a lot healthier. feeling good bout that fo shooo.

ok, i'm not going anywhere with this entry.

moral of the story: if you wanna hang out, call me up yo. i'm sure i'm just as bored as you are. there's only so much time in the summer...

peace out ya'll. have a good rest of the weekend.

later.

Who Is Mike Jones?

well, it has been a minute for damn sure.

what's new?

hmm... (random thoughts and such)

-don't spill margaritas on your floor at your sister's graduation party (right in front of your parents, grandparents, and just about everyone else in this world). take it from me

-got my cartilage pierced. for free. thanks jess

-class hasn't been too bad so far (only 20 more to go! that's right the countdown is already on). i have christy owens in my class, and the professor is pretty cool. he let us out an hour and a half early tonight. AND all of our tests are take-home. much better, IMO of course, than taking it at eastern.

-work really hasn't been bad either. i work 7AM-3PM for the most part now. the days seems to go by so much quicker now. on top of that, i really don't give two shits anymore. it's just fast food. i mean. shit. i'll do my job, but by no means will i freak out over it, or make it a bigger deal than it actually is. on the bright side however, my favorite part of this summer at the wac thus far, was when a middle-aged guy came through drive-thru, i hand him his drink, and he says, "what the hell is this?! i ordered a beer!" it's people like him that make my day that much better. with the negativity that people give me in drive-thru on a daily basis, a goofy ass comment is certainly welcome anyday of the week.

-"i wear my sunglasses at night" is a hype.

-don't think i'm gonna get that summer hire job. pretty bummed.

-the cardinals are starting to worry me. i hate isringhausen. really, i do. albert pujols is still el hombre in my book though. let's just hope for him to come back soon.

-speaking of the cardinals, i got free tickets to the game on memorial day, thanks to gary peck, owner of all the wonderful wacarnold's in the area. it was pretty sweet actually, since they were in big mac land and all. i was able to take both my dad and grandpa. i think they really appreciated it, especially since neither of them had been to the new busch before then. plus. i just flat out owed my dad. i mean, how many times has he taken me before. i think it was definitely my turn to return the favor.

-here's to hoping that whatever drum corps shows we go to totally rock. since i definitely can't afford to do what i did last summer.

-officially a member of gold's gym as of today. hoping to shed some pounds this summer (and by some, i mean a lot)

-got my tickets straightened out for the 4th of july, so i will definitely be in naperville/chicago, hanging out with brandon and possibly the salamander, for our nation's birfday. i leave june 30th and i'll get back the afternoon of the 4th. if anyone wants to catch fireworks downtown let me know.

-ultimate frisbee is still one of the most underrated activities in the whole world.

-so, i might sound like i've been super busy this summer, but the truth is, i'm not. i think that's partly because i just haven't done anything and no one is around. with tom living in alton, jarel and sloth both gone, and everyone around working 40 hours a week (now that duey FINALLY found a job hahaha), i just haven't done anything. this summer certainly hasn't lived up to the hype that i was hoping for. you never know how much you depend on your friends until they are actually gone. this summer is certainly a harsh way to face reality and the working world of our young adult lives. i won't lie: it sucks. oh well, gotta make that dollar i suppose...

alright, enough of this. i might be done with xanga. who knows.

peace out.

Gangsta's Paradise

well, here it is. what is now pretty much my monthly update.

hard to believe, but by 5:00 PM, wednesday, i will officially be done with my freshmen year of college. it still hasn't really hit me that i am 1/4 of my way on to being a real, working member of society and the working force. kinda scary. i have 1 final on tuesday and then my other 3 on wednesday, then hanging out/packing here and leaving by thursday afternoon! yowza yowza yowza. i'm  hoping for 3 As and a B again this semester, but i'm just waiting to see how everything plays out. a cumulative GPA above 3.5 would definitely be great.

friday, i am planning on heading down to carbondale to hang out with all of those jerks, which should be fun. since NO ONE will be in o'fallon, besides all of you high school kids. i originally was going to head up to champaign but tom and jimmy both have finals saturday morning, so that was kind of a bummer.

this summer, i'm hoping to land a student summer hire job on base, making pretty decent money. it would definitely be solid. don't worry though, if i do get this job, i still plan to work at wacarnold's on saturdays or something (so i can keep going back on turkey/spring/winter breaks), so i will have plenty of rants about the golden arches this summer.

on top of that load (possibly an 8-4 job M-F), i will be taking a math class at SWIC, 4 credit hours, from june to the end of july, 3 nights a week, MTR. not at all excited about it, but it's something i need to do so i can get out of here in 4 years.

saw zoso a few weekends ago. i won't lie, i've never liked led zeppelin that much, but man. those guys were AMAZING. they made me appreciate the led THAT much more. if you ever have a chance to see zoso, check them out, it is well worth your 10 bucks.

on tuesday, i borrowed my buddy jake's car, and headed to springfield to see blast!/mike welch at UIS. that drive from charleston was quite possibly the most boring thing possible in this world: ALL STATE HIGHWAYS THE WHOLE WAY. shoot me in the face. but. i made it and met up with welch. it was pretty sweet, i got there and immediately headed in to the auditorium to get an up-close and personal look at what goes on during rehearsal. those guys are freakishly good. after that, i headed off with mike and listened to him do some more warm-ups. that guy is ridiculous. soooo good. i've never even dreamed of playing some of the lip slurs that he was pulling off. it really made my wanna pick up my horn again, but that's neither here nor there. all in all, i wound up getting a backstage VIP pass from welch and got to sit wherever i wanted basically. the show is super tight for sure. i definitely had a great time, even if i was sitting there by myself the whole show. afterwards,  we hopped in jake's car and followed the buses back to their hotel and went to his room, ordered some pizza, and watched some crazy unicycling videos on his laptop. basically, it was a great day. the pizza was on him, and i got into blast for free. that's what i call a solid day for damn sure. afterwards, i drove back to charleston and i've been here ever since.

onto other things...

i have a friend named rik that looks like a salamander

duey came to eastern one of these boring weekends this semester. it was fun. i dominated him and brandon at name that tune at jimmy john's. i pretty much run this place.

i will most likely be headed up to naperville, il for the 4th of july, to go to ribfest and hang out with a couple of buddies from school. i am definitely excited about that. from what i hear it is a great time. and BRANDON AMOS IS THE COOLEST GUY IN THE WORLD EVEN IF HE CALLS ME GAY ON MY OWN FACEBOOK, MAKING IT LOOK LIKE IT'S ME SAYING IT. JERK. anyway, i'm stoked for that.

there was a festival here this weekend. i'll go out on a limb here and call it the lamest festival ever. i walked from one end to the other in about 5 minutes. only good thing was that there was homemade root beer, refillable and all, and a pretty decent emo band, called the junior varsity. surprisingly they were very good musically, and they put on a great show. the lead singer was my hype. it was obvious that the guy was all doped up on who knows what, but he still put on an awesome show.

i've been so into baseball this season it's not even funny. all i really have to say is that albert pujols is a badass, jason isringhausen scares me every time that he comes into a game, juan encarnacion needs to pick it up, i love scott spiezio's pink rat tail facial hair, and watching games on TV makes me want to go to a game at the new busch that much more. dan hines?

anyway, i just about completed a novel here in the last 20 minutes, so i'm gonna go study a bit and hit the sack. maybe play some mario kart too.

oh yeah- next week, if you're ever bored, please don't hesitate to call me, ask to get food, whatever. i guarantee you that i will be bored to the point of tears come wednesday.

peace out homies.

good luck on finals to all of you!

P.S.- congrats to my sister jessica, who got a job at a hospital in indianapolis! she'll be moving in a little over a month!
